What is the DEL VAL UNITED youth football program all about?
Our youth football program is dedicated to providing a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for children in the DVRHS sending district to learn and play football. DVUFC believes in fostering a love for the game while teaching important life skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, and discipline.
How is the DVUFC program structured?
DVUFC participates in a league that is non-restrictive, meaning every player within our Del Val Regional High School has a place to play. Our program is divided into various age groups or divisions to ensure players are competing against others of similar age and skill level.
Who can join the DVUFC youth football program?
Our program is open to all children within our sending district who meet the age requirements for the respective divisions. Whether your child is a beginner or has prior experience, they are welcome to join our program and be part of our #dvufcfamily.
What age groups do you cater to and how are teams formed?
Del Val United offers divisions for children ranging from Grades Kindergarten thru 8th grade. Depending on the number of participants, the goal is to produce Grade Level Football Teams. The following chart breaks down the divisions:
Division A – 8th Grade
Division B – 7th Grade
Division C – 6th Grade
Division D – 5th Grade
Division E – 4th Grade
Division F – 3rd & 2nd Grade
Division Flag – 2nd, 1st & K
Coaches and league organizers work together to create balanced teams to ensure fair and competitive play.
What are the benefits of joining our youth football program?
Joining the DVUFC program offers numerous benefits for young athletes. These include physical fitness, skill development, social interaction, teamwork, leadership skills, and character building. Additionally, participating in organized sports promotes a healthy lifestyle and instills valuable life lessons.
What sets Del Val United Apart from other Football programs?
Del Val United holds a firm belief in granting ALL young athletes the opportunity to participate in football without being hindered by weight restrictions. While there isn't a universal maximum weight limit across all levels, restrictions on running or handling the ball are enforced based on maximum weight limits for ball handlers. Ball handlers undergo pre-qualification at the start of the season through an official weigh-in and must meet the qualification criteria again before the commencement of any league-sanctioned game.
Are Unlimited Weight Leagues Safe?
In an effort to provide an opportunity to as many youths as possible, the NJSYFL has endeavored to formulate rules and guidelines that minimize the restrictions on participation while at the same time fostering an environment of safety, fairness, and good sportsmanship. One of the most unique characteristics that distinguishes the NJSYFL from many other youth football organizations, and opens the door to many participants that would otherwise be excluded from participation in other programs, is the “Waiver Rule”. Often participants are turned away from programs that have strict weight limits or they are asked to move up to play at a level with older and more physically mature players. This may place certain players at a greater risk for injury to themselves or possibly other players. These situations typically involve a participant who is heavy for his age, not very aggressive, and who would run the risk of injury if he was required to play at a higher level. Some programs may not even provide an option to play at a higher level even if the participant might be physically ready. The SYFL “Waiver Rule” exists to allow any youth, regardless of size or weight, and that has a desire to play organized football, to participate at an appropriate level. No participant will be turned away on the basis of their weight. Additionally, the safety of all SYFL participants is of paramount importance, hence the “Waiver Rule” was crafted to also protect the players. To understand how these two seemingly conflicting goals can be simultaneously achieved, please read through the following sections which describe how the “Waiver Rule” is implemented. https://njsyfl.com/
What is Tip of the Spear Training?
All Del Val United athletes (Grades 5-8) will undergo Tip of the Spear Training. Tip of the Spear enhances safety and performance through advanced techniques. Tip of the Spear is dedicated to nurturing football's development via educational and technical training initiatives aimed at boosting player safety and excellence. Tip of the Spear presents a proprietary system for instructional skill development in football. Designed for coaches and players alike, its primary objective is to minimize head and neck injuries resulting from helmet contact by prioritizing on-field performance enhancement. This system equips individuals at all levels of football with the necessary resources to learn techniques for reducing helmet contact. By fostering confidence and proficiency in contact skills, Tip of the Spear aims to elevate athletes' overall performance while promoting safety on the field. https://tipofthespearfootball.com/
Who are the coaches in our program?
Our coaches are dedicated volunteers who are passionate about football and committed to the development of young athletes. Many of our coaches have experience playing or coaching football at various levels and undergo training and certification to ensure they provide a positive and enriching experience for all players. Starting from the 2012 season, the NJ-SYFL has pledged affiliation with the USA Football organization (www.usafootball.com ). As part of this commitment, all coaches must complete online certification training before the commencement of the 2012 season. Certification progress will be overseen at both league and league representative levels. Coaches certified in the 2012 season must renew their certification annually by completing the 30-minute recertification course available on the USA Football website mentioned above.
What other safety measures are in place?
The safety of our players is our top priority. We adhere to all league safety guidelines and protocols, including equipment requirements, proper technique instruction, and injury prevention strategies. Additionally, all coaches are trained in CPR and first aid.
How often do teams practice and play games?
Teams will practice Monday through Thursday beginning on August 12th . Once school starts, practices will be 3 days a week, Tuesdays through Thursdays. Flag will practice twice a week. Specific details will be communicated by coaches and league officials as we get closer to the season.

How can parents get involved in the program?

There are various opportunities for parents to get involved, including volunteering as coaches, team managers, or helping with fundraising and event organization. We also encourage parents to support their children by attending games, cheering from the sidelines, and promoting a positive and supportive atmosphere.
